Then the Lord God said, "It is not good for the man to be alone; I will make him a helper suitable for him." Genesis 2:18
As the mother of three sons, I have long understood the truth in this verse and I have prayed for the Lord to bring a helper suitable for each one of them. Yes, it's true that I maybe didn't teach them to take care of themselves well enough. They are not so good at doing their laundry, eating healthy meals or keeping track of the details of life. I did all those things for them when they were under my roof and I have seen them flounder around in these areas in that gap between mom and marriage. These practical things are important but, to be honest, these are not the things that I have spent much time in prayer over.
Proverbs 31:10-12, that's what I have been praying for Brad, Tim and Dan. An excellent wife, who can find? For her worth is far above jewels. The heart of her husband trusts in her, And he will have no lack of gain. She does him good and not evil all the days of her life. That's it, that's a description of the helpers suitable for my boys.
I'm no model wife and mother but, there is one thing about me that I hope to see in my sons' mates. I love my husband and respect him as a man. He is my partner in life and I love him much more now than I even knew how to love 35 years ago. I'd rather spend my day with him than anyone else on earth. I find that amazing.... after all these years .... he's still my favorite person!
Today, I, Mrs. Grimm, sat down with two other Mrs. Grimms and had a simple lunch. We held hands and prayed and I got a little choked up as I realized that I was holding hands with two answers to prayer. As we sat with our heads bowed, I said a prayer for another Mrs. Grimm many miles away on a different continent. How I wish that other answer to prayer was in this precious circle as well.
I love you, Sarah, Anna and Rebeca. When I think of you, I will always thank God for answered prayer.
